A quiet day. US stocks opened slightly higher, following strength in Asia and a mixed Europe. It is a very quiet day so far, but focus remains on reopening the country, next monetary and fiscal policy steps, and the eventual economic recovery. A historically weak April ADP employment number this morning (more than 20 million people lost their jobs in April) reminded investors of the immediate economic impact of COVID-19.
Remembering the flash crash. The flash crash occurred 10 years ago today: In a matter of minutes, the Dow lost more than 1,000 points, or nearly $1 trillion. What is so unique about this is that a decade later, most industry professionals still can’t agree on exactly what caused it! We take a trip down memory lane and focus on this historic day later today on the LPL Research blog.
